מחקר שביצע פרופ' דויד נאט, לשעבר יועץ הממשלה הבריטית למדיניות הסמים , חושף נתונים שקשה להישאר אליהם אדישים. האלכוהול והטבק החוקיים מזיקים לפרט ולחברה יותר מהקנאביס. האלכוהול עוקף אפילו את הקראק וההירואין.

מלאני דרהר, דיקן לסיעוד במרכז הרפואי שבשיקגו, ערכה מחקר במטרה לבדוק את השפעת צריכת קנאביס על העובר ועל האם בזמן ההריון ועל ההתפתחותו של היילוד. ד"ר דרהר עקבה במחקרה, אחר מהלך הריונן המלא של נשים בג'מייקה ואחר ההתפתחות של התינוקות ברחמן.

תמיד אמרו לנו שהקנאביס הורג תאי מוח. מחקר חדש חושף כי דווקא החומר הפעיל בקנאביס הא זה שמעודד נוירוגנזה - תהליך של התחדשות תאים במוח.
